This past Sunday was the first Period Correct meet at the Morning Service Coffee shop in Atwater. I hadn't been to this location in a while, so I thought it was a good excuse to check it out again. Tucked up against the LA River (which all of a sudden has become an attraction), it has an industrial/urban backdrop that makes a cool space for car meets.
I met with Joe at his shop (The M Shop) and Chris (rogue2002) early that morning and we cruised over to the meet together. Chris was in the famous inka 2002 with Jagermeister livery. Joe brought out the e39 M5 swapped wagon on ACS Type 2 wheels. This wagon build has so many details it needs a write up of its own.
We got there early because people have been showing up at events over an hour before they start lately so we expected to see a crowd. To our surprise we were the first ones there. Aldo of Morning Service quickly greeted us as he was trying to get the coffee shop opened up. Closer to 9am the cars started rolling in.
Some nice vintage Datsuns showed up along with a handful of Skylines. There was a presence of ego flexing supercars not typical of the usual Period Correct events in the past which always consisted of tastefully built/restored classics.
I waited for this Mclaren to roll by so I could get a better view of Ricky (ngolimits) in his beautiful '62 Mini Pickup. In the bed was his recently completed and modded Coleman minibike. He had me searching for one on Offerup by the end of the day.
Steve in his beautiful Benton restored 912 cruised in and turned heads as always. I don't think it is possible to fully appreciate that Aga blue color from a photograph. In the distance I heard the loud spooling of turbos. Sure enough it was Ozzie (996motoringclub) pulling up in the super clean OEM+ 996 Turbo.
The slammed Mercedes crew made an appearance. Always a classy addition to the mix.
Jake of Bullet Proof Restorations showed up with two of his fully restored International Scouts. Im pretty envious of Rashod (motoringwhileblack), he's been driving around in the freshly completed Patina '62 project with a Cummins turbo diesel.
By far one of my favorite cars there was this fully restored Lincoln Continental Convertible. I love me some compact Euro sports cars, but I'm digging these big American land yachts lately.
As I mentioned in a previous post, there is a short list of cars I would give up my 911 for. A true Euro BMW e28 M5 is one of them. This was such a great example with cloth interior, manual crank windows, and properly fitted BBS RS's.
It was turning into quite the warm morning and more flexing supercars were showing up, so I decided to call it and meet with the family for brunch. All in all it was a good local show with some familiar faces I was happy to see. Catch you all next time! Keep building! Keep driving!
